Red Monkey Flowerhorns
Red Monkey Flowerhorn
The Red Monkey Flowerhorn is a premium, rare strain of the Flowerhorn family, prized for its deep red coloration, prominent nuchal hump (kok), and intelligent personality. This hybrid showcases intricate pearling across its body, with a fiery red face and thick, vibrant fins that command attention in any aquarium.

Currently available at 4–5" size.
Care Guide
Tank Requirements
- Minimum tank size: 75 gallons (single specimen); 125+ gallons if housing with tankmates
- Tank setup: Bare bottom or large smooth substrate; minimal décor to allow free swimming and reduce injury to the kok
- Filtration: Heavy-duty canister or sump filter — Flowerhorns are messy eaters and produce significant waste
- Lighting: Moderate; enhances red and pearl coloration
Water Parameters
- Temperature: 78–84°F (25–29°C)
- pH: 7.0–8.0
- Hardness: 8–20 dGH
- Ammonia / Nitrite: 0 ppm at all times
- Nitrate: Keep below 20 ppm with regular water changes (25–30% weekly)
Diet
- High-quality Flowerhorn pellets (color-enhancing formulas recommended)
- Supplement with frozen or live foods: bloodworms, krill, and earthworms to boost color and kok development
- Feed 2–3 times daily; remove uneaten food promptly
- Avoid overfeeding — it degrades water quality rapidly
Compatibility
- Best kept alone — Red Monkey Flowerhorns are highly aggressive and territorial
- If housing with tankmates, choose large, robust fish (e.g., large plecos, Oscar cichlids) with a heavily divided or spacious tank
- Never house with small or passive fish
- Monitor closely when introducing any tankmate
Experience Level
Recommended for intermediate to advanced aquarists who can maintain stable water conditions and provide the enrichment this intelligent fish demands.
